We are supporters of Iran Human Rights Italy, a human rights organization.
We call on you to release Reza Shahabi immediately and unconditionally, as he is a prisoner of conscience held solely for his peaceful trade union activities;
We call on you to ensure that all those held are protected from torture and other ill-treatment, and are granted immediate access to their families, to lawyers of their choice, and to adequate medical care.
We urge you to end all victimization, discrimination and harassment and arrest of trade unionists.
We remind you of your obligations under the ICCPR, Article 22 (1) of which provides for the right to form and join trade unions, and also Iran’s obligations under Convention 87 (freedom of association) and 98 (right to organize) of the International Labour Organization, compliance with which is expected as a condition of Iran’s membership of the ILO.
